Pirated word: Unacceptable

As in "That's unacceptable." A word that refers to the adequacy of something has become a conversational sledghammer. Telling a DMV clerk or a waiter "That's unacceptable" means "I don't like what you told me and I'm going to behave like a toddler, without any of the common sense, empathy or thoughtfulness required for human beings to conduct their lives." Much of life is unacceptable - nastiness and dim thinking, for example. And you just have to accept that. submitted by John

"Of which there is only one" -- Thus "very unique" ("very one?"),"Almost Unique," Totally Unique ("we really mean it?") all are meaningless. submitted by Larry

Neither is a word but they're worth mentioning here. Both are grunts that are being used as if they are speech. Intelligent, informed, otherwise coherent speakers are more and more often filling their speech with this garbage. It slows down the transfer of information and insults the listeners by forcing them to listen to grunting while they try to obtain information. submitted by Scott
Pirated word: underretailed

As if it's the marketing executive's decision how much the average human should be buying, this word should actually not exist at all. Overretailed, on the other hand can be applied to everyone but Japanese soldiers still marooned on desert islands since WWII. Lets find an alternate definition for underretailed to remove it from the marketer's vocabulary. I suggest: "adj. having extremely small or non-existent areolae." As in, "She's really cute, but her chest is so underretailed it kind of creeps me out." submitted by tom m.

Too often used in place of the word "use." In fact it means "make do with something not normally used for the purpose", such as using a coin to tighten a screw when no screwdriver's around.
Like many other -ize words that replace a simpler word, "utilize" shows up often when the user needs to feel important by adding syllables.

Can't we just say "use"? It doesn't sound as fancy, but it means the same thing. submitted by
