As in "That's unacceptable." A word that refers to the adequacy of something has become a conversational sledghammer. Telling a DMV clerk or a waiter "That's unacceptable" means "I don't like what you told me and I'm going to behave like a toddler, without any of the common sense, empathy or thoughtfulness required for human beings to conduct their lives." Much of life is unacceptable - nastiness and dim thinking, for example. And you just have to accept that.
