"Well, our company used to operate in the server space, but that got crowded, so now we're just playing in the DNS optimization space..." Pardon me while I puke! This new use of a perfectly ordinary word was invented by techies (cyberspace, phasespace) and confiscated by venture capitalists and consultants who wanted to make their business moves sound more scientifically derived. They don't just invest, they "play in a space." When I hear this phrase used this way, the only thing I can think of is the "space" between their ears!
