savings
So ingrained in our culture, it might be America's oldest lie. Marketers, salespeople, and peddlers of every kind of snake oil all purport a 'savings' when you purchase an item at a bargain price, when in fact, you save nothing, but only spend a little less. The only point at which you save money at all is when you decide not to make a purchase. Still fooling people after 200 years or more.
