System originally means a flow of process or order of activity in a pre-designed criteria. Now with all these techies around, it has primarily become a synonym of a computer system. System essentially means a computer system or information system and just try using this word during a discussion with techies on whatever issue, they will jump up and catch the word to change the issue of discussion!!!
