ping
Main Entry:1ping Pronunciation:*pi* Function:noun Inflected Form:-s Etymology:imitative 1 : a sharp metallic sound like or suggestive of that made by a rifle bullet striking an obstruction *heard the ping of a slingshot Frank O'Connor* *a bell T rang with a ping Bruce Marshall* 2 : an abnormal sound made by a gas engine usually due to advanced spark or excessive carbon accumulation : KNOCK 3 : the pulse of sound waves reflected from or emitted by a submerged object in submarine signaling or detection and heard by special apparatus A lot of people say "ping me" just to sound more hip/intelligent or technically-in-the-know when it couldn't be further from the truth. Why not just say "call/write/contact/phone me" instead of sounding as dumb as a tree stump by using a word that doesn't belong in a context as that? If you want to go that way, why don't we keep on that note and alternate by saying "I think we can be more synergistic with our frequent ponging. Maybe if you don't have the bandwidth on this weekend, I'll try to reverse-engineer something for you." I'm sorry, but if you talk like this (unfortunately I do know someone who talks like this), it makes me want to slap you to the next world.
