Penultimate
We'll never get "ultimate" back in the bag (it should mean "last"), but perhaps hope remains for penultimate. Penultimate means "next to last", but I frequently see it used to mean "more than ultimate" (which is not only incorrect but impossible). So here's the progression, which is necessary to comprehend classical Greek: ultimate=last; penultimate= next to last; antepenultimate = just before next to last.
