You buy a house. You make a home. But the real-estate community, in an effort to make its offerings more warm and fuzzy for the house buyer, have labeled all houses "homes." "House for sale" signs are rare these days. "Home for sale" signs abound.
But why would I want to buy a home? How can I buy a home? Do I get the social/family unit with that, too? What I really want is a house that I can make my home.
Granted, a real-estate agent couldn't slap up a "house for sale" sign if he were selling an apartment, so the "home for sale" sign offers him a catch-all term to use. But it's the wrong term. Agents will just have to invest in signs that accurately describe what it is they are selling. And again, they are selling property -- not homes. People (residents) make homes. Construction companies make houses. And real-estate agents sell the houses. That's what's really going on.
