Often used by middle managers attempting to motivate a lower-on-the-totem pole worker to complete some piece of undesirable work while spinning it as a 'benefit' to the employee. Similar to good ol' Tom Sawyer and that painted fence notion. E.g. "Tom, converting that vintage mainframe database into SQL2000 is a great growth opportunity for you to demonstrate your RDB skills to upper management...".
