This phrase has been appended to journalist's names with such reverence as if to connote that reporting on an event from deep inside one perspective is somehow more desireable than reporting on it from an objective vantage point. It has been co-opted to indicate detailed and exclusive coverage, when in fact these embedded journalists often need the permission of their military escorts into order to file a report, potentially setting up a skewed perspective in the outgoing information.
